Nivada Grenchen Leonardo Da Vinci 1969

This Leonardo Da Vinci model , which is increasingly harder to find in all original condition with the signed crown and desired steel case , is in all original condition and near NOS.
 
To me this has to be one of the most visually striking vintage watches of the world. The smoked , blackened edge , teal blue dial, the brushed inner metal bezel with handapplied roman numerals , the subtle  crosshair dial that helps the wearer connect the hands to the 12 hour bezel quickly while glancing, this is magnificient. Even the date window is not placed in a common spot and the raised frame surrounding it pops with light due to it's beautiful high polish finish.
 
The movement is beatifully finished in high rhodium plating , and gold engraving of the manufacturer on the rotor. Though ETA is nothing special or innovative today , the ETA 2472 inside this watch was advanced for 1960's with Bidirectional Winding and a Date Mechanism that would change the date instantly at midnight , a feature most movements at the time couldn't do instantly.
 
This piece is a hidden gem , while Nivada is finally being recognized for it's legendary history such as making the first dive watch to have 1000 meter water resistance , or watches worn for Operation DeepFreeze in the South Pole , this Leonardo DaVinci is still overlooked , and it is as rare if not more than many Nivada sports models such as the Chronomaster.
